Accused in the brutal assault of Ukhrul minor girl gets bail

Imphal, April 18 2013: The JAC constituted against the physical assault of a nine year old girl domestic helper at Seven Finance Colony, Ukhrul on February 3 this year has decried the release of one the alleged assailants on bail.

The girl was working as a domestic help at the house of one Antibas Horam of Seven Finance Colony, Ukhrul.

She was assaulted in the most brutal manner by Edah Horam, wife of Antibas and their son Jim Horam.

Speaking to media persons in connection with the incident at the office of Action of Women in Development, Hoinu Bazar, Ukhrul on April 17, convenor of the JAC, AC Thotso demanded that due charge-sheet should be filed against accused Edah Horam and Jim Horam at the earliest so that the case can be adjudicated in Court.

The press meet was also attended by members of the Women Committees of the United NGOs Mission Manipur representing Ukhrul, Imphal East and Imphal West districts.

Later, the members visited the girl at Tashar village under Ukhrul AC where she is living with her grandfather.

While decrying the merciless assault of the tender girl, the grandfather urged all concerned to book and punish all the culprits without undue delay.

The girl was bashed up in the most brutal manner by Edah Horam and Jim Horam on the charge of stealing money, jewellery and SIM cards.

The minor girl suffered multiple fractures on the left shoulder.

Her fingers were also broken.

Apart from lashing the girl on different parts of the body, she was pressed by a hot iron rod on the legs.

She somehow managed to ran out from the house of Antibas Horam on February 8.Although the physical wounds have started recuperating, the fractures on the shoulder have not been treated properly.

Moreover, she is suffering from trauma and other psychological problems, said her grandfather Homi.

Saying that they have become old, Homi hoped if some philanthropic organisations would come forward and make arrangements for security and welfare of his granddaughter's future.

Sending negotiators or middlemen seeking a compromised after assaulting the girl in such brutal manner is unacceptable.

"Poor as we are, we don't have money but for us too, there is the Almighty God", Homi said.

The United NGOs Mission Manipur donated Rs 5000 towards treatment of the girl child whose father had expired after which her mother married another man for the second time.
