Training on textile dyeing techniques begins at Keibul to support conservation and livelihoods

A 10-day training programme on "Textile Dyeing Techniques" commenced today at Ima Phouoibi Community Hall, Keibul, with the objective of supporting the conservation of Sangai and other wildlife in Keibul Lamjao National Park, the world's only floating National park, while promoting livelihood opportunities for people living in surrounding villages.
The training programme is being organised by the Wildlife Institute of India, Dehradun, in collaboration with the Manipur Forest Department and Manipur State Rural Livelihoods Mission (MSRLM).
The inaugural function was attended by Chief Conservator of Forests (Wildlife), Manipur Forest Department, L Joykumar Singh (IFS), as chief guest; DCF (Park & Sanctuary) and Director of Manipur Zoological Garden, L Biramangol Singh (IFS), as functional president; along with Project.
Scientist, Wildlife Institute of India, Dr Mirza Ghazanfarullah Ghazi; State Mission Manager (Livelihood-NF), MSRLM, Department of RD & PR, Khamba Ronglio; Programme Manager (NF), MSRLM, Kasulle Jubilee; and State awardee and Master.

Eastern Dyeing & Printing Industries (ED & PI), Imphal, is the training partner for the programme.
The training sessions will be held at Keibul and ED & PI, with 45 male and female trainees from villages surrounding the Keibul Lamjao National Park participating.
During the training, participants will receive practical and technical knowledge on various aspects of textile dyeing, including cotton processing, colour theory, application of direct and reactive dyes, sulphur dyes, vat dyes, azoic dyes, silk processing, degumming, acid dyes, vegetable dye extraction, application and finishing techniques.
