BJP targets 272 seats in next LS polls

Imphal, August 19 2013: Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi, tipped as the BJP's Prime Ministerial candidate, has asserted that BJP and its allies can certainly wrest power by winning 272 and more seats in the next Lok Sabha election.

A national level meeting of BJP was held yesterday at NDMC Hall, Parliament Street, New Delhi and it was attended by BJP officer bearers, Chief Ministers of BJP-ruled States, presidents and general secretaries of BJP State units.

BJP Manipur unit was represented by its president Th Chaoba and general secretary (organisation) S Premananda.

Talking over phone about the meeting, BJP general secretary M Ashinikumar who is currently putting up at Delhi told The Sangai Express that the meeting was held primarily focussing on Mission 2014 .

Addressing the gathering, Narendra Modi exhorted one and all to struggle hard in order to uproot Congress party from the soil of India.

BJP can definitely wrest power from Congress by winning more than 272 seats in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections provided BJP national and State leaders work sincerely with a commitment, Modi asserted.

Claiming that he is the mission de chief for this job, the Gujarat Chief Minister pledged not to rest until the mission is accomplished.

He further exhorted the gathering to work in compliance with the party's ideology of 'nation first, party second' .

Categorically rejecting all the Congress party's assertions of BJP being communal and discriminatory towards minority communities, Narendra Modi contended that BJP never favours communalism or racism.

He cited the case of nominating a Muslim President in the person of Dr APJ Abdul Kalam when BJP's Atal Behari Vajpayee was the Prime Minister.

Blaming the Congress party for doing very little despite being in power for decades in the North East region, Narendra asserted that it was during the NDA regime that the separate DoNER Ministry for the North East was set up.

However, the Ministry has been severely handicapped after Congress came to power at the Centre as it is no longer enjoying the administrative and financial autonomy it once enjoyed.

The is one clear evidence of the Congress party marginalising the North East region, Modi asserted.
