Imphal, February 12, 2011:
Shortage of doctors in the various Community Health Centres (CHCs) located in different parts of the State under the Directorate of Health Services, Govt of Manipur has become a cause of headache for officials of the Directorate who have been receiving numerous complaints.
According to a source in the Directorate of Health Services, two to three doctors of the Directorate posted in the CHCs.
But as these doctors were not able to take care of all the medical needs of the people, two more MOs each recruited on contract basis under National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) have been posted and it led to some improvement in the health care scenario even in the periphery areas.
As the Directorate still suffer from shortage of doctors despite posting of MOs recruited on contract basis under NRHM to the CHCs, the Government had entrusted the Manipur Public Service Commission (MPSC) for the requisition of 401 more MOs in the Directorate.
Consequently, MPSC had conducted the DPC for recruitment of 401 MOs.
However, in the DPC for requisition of 401, many of the MOs who have recruited on contract basis under NRHM too have applied and succeeded in the DPC.
As a result, many of them left their earlier place of postings, thereby leading to crisis of shortage in the CHCs.
So, far the appointment orders have also not been given to the 329 MOs who have been requisitioned by the MPSC.
