Curtains came down on the 36th general conference of Aanal Naga Students' Union (Anal Lenruwl Taangpi) held since January 23 at Chandel district's Ralrumng (Zarong) village yesterday.
formal closing function was held yesterday with Lok Sabha MP Mani Charenamei and ANSAM president Paulhring Langhu as the chief guest and president respectively.
In his speech, Charenamei expressed that until and unless students who pursued studies at other more developed States contribute their mite towards development of education in the State the very purpose of spending huge amount for acquiring academic excellence.
He called upon the student community to overcome the concept that educational excellence is a gateway to employment or personal prosperity and emphasised on education for ushering an era of overall societal wellbeing.
Pointing to modern day inevitability for taking education to nooks and corner of the State especially in the remote and hilly villages, the MP suggested that rather than host extravagant events entailing huge expenditure, educationbased sessions on a smaller scale but nevertheless effective dimension be organised in education-deprived villages.
The chief guest also prevailed upon the tribal people on necessity to not only endeavour for development of the respective community but to strive for preservation and promotion of culture and traditional heritage which he described as guiding principle at crucial juncture.
Only relentless effort to preserve one's culture identity of a community could be safeguarded in addition to ensuring survival of that community or group of people, he maintained.
mani Charenamei also unveiled a memorial plaque of the conference while representatives of host student organisation submitted a memorandum to that urged the MP for appropriate action on improving inter-village roads extending from Chandel district headquarters till Vumku via Duthang village, connectivity with the district headquarters and Anal Khullen via
Chakpikarong and the important Chandel-Sugnu-Chakpikarong route.
Other proposals mentioned in the ALT representation include construction of a guest house at the district headquarters, provide telephone exchange facility, mobile phone transmission tower at Green Hills village located between Berukhudam and Anal Khullen villages, lay optical fibre cable to link telephone exchanges of Chandel and Tengnoupal and construct a bridge over Chakpi river near Lamphoupasna.
Competitions on debating, ex-tempore speech, cultural dance, folk songs and selection of Miss and Mister Anal Lenruwl Taangpi were the other highlights of the closing programme.
The Miss title was bagged by Shangrina of Japhou Bazar, with the first and second runners-up titles respectively going to S Jasha of Zambung village and JS Delemhring of Chandel Christian village.
L Simon of Chandel Christian village was declared winner of the Mister ALT title.
