Director highlights upgrades of RIMS on foundation day

Imphal, September 14 2020: The Regional Institute of Medical Sciences, Imphal celebrated its 49th foundation day today with RIMS Director Prof A Santa Singh highlighting the upgraded infrastructure and equipment of RIMS.

According to a release, the Surgical ICU has been renovated and improved.

A level 1 Trauma Care Centre with ICU and HDU facility and two Operation Theatres have become functional.

A 10-bedded new dialysis Centre with Haemodialysis machine is also ready for functioning while more rooms in the paying ward have been upgraded.

Equipments such as Laparoscopic sets (5 Nos), ICU ventilators (59 Nos), Haemodialysis machines (10 Nos), Ultrasonography machines (7 Nos), X-ray machines (6 Nos), high end Anaesthesia workstation (9 Nos), Defibrillators (10 Nos), Surgical Operating Microscope (for ENT Dept), Brain Retractor System, Ultrasonic Surgical Aspiration, Echocardiography machine, Halter machine, Blood Gas Analyzer, Multiparameter Monitors, Plasma Sterilizer, RT PCR with Extraction unit, RT Micro PCR workstation, Deep Freezers, Elisa Readers and Washers, OT lamps, OT tables, ICU beds, hospital beds, simulators for skill lab etc have been procured during the year, Prof A Santa Singh informed the gathering.

A new 3-Tesla MRI machine is currently under installation in the new OPD building and is expected to be operational in a few weeks time, he said.

The Director further said the Institute has carried out a number of construction works and major repairing and renovation works.

They include a public washroom facility near Dental College OPD, an OT for Obs & Gynae Department.

A Trauma Care Centre and a new Dialysis centre has been set up while a hostel for girl students of College of Nursing which can accommodate about 40 students has also been commissioned.

Construction of separate new buildings for the Dental College, Nursing College is almost complete and can be commissioned soon, he said.

Pharmacology laboratory, class room cum examination hall, post graduate ladies hostel with 100 capacities is nearing completion and can be utilized in a few weeks time, he said.

Despite the many constraints, RIMS is fully committed to complementing the Government effort of reducing the maternal and child mortality rate and furthermore, control the spread of preventable diseases, he said and added that to this effect, the Institute is implementing many schemes such as PMJAY, JSSK, JSY, RBSK, CMHT, RCC etc.

Prof A Santa Singh stated that the Institute is focusing to scale higher targets in the health sector which is evolving rapidly.

The bigger picture is to make healthcare more accessible and affordable to the people.

He also thanked the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare for fully supporting and backing the Institute in its endeavour.

Prof Brogen Singh Akoijam who attended the function as presidium member informed that the Institute is renaming both ladies and gents hostels based on famous indigenous flowers and hills of Manipur.

Prof Kh Sulochana Devi, Dean, School of Medical Sciences, Manipur University and Prof Ch Arunkumar Singh, Medical Superintendent, RIMS also attended the function as presidium members.
