Day 2 of gun fight : 2 IRB men, 6 civilians hurt

Moirang, August 30 2023: At least eight persons including two IRB personnel sustained injuries on day 2 of gunfights between Kuki militants and State police and IRB at Naranseina under Moirang police station and on the western side of Thamnapokpi which is in close proximity with the former.

An unofficial source claimed that 5 Kuki militants might have been killed in the gunfight too.

It is reported that the gunfight which started yesterday after Kuki militants shot a farmer while working at a field on his chest continued till today, although sporadically.

The injured IRB personnel have been identified as Rifleman Salam Bobin (38) of Naraseina and he sustained bullet injuries on his right leg and Jamadar L Deven (54) of Khudekpi Mamang Leikai.

Both of them are posted at 2nd IRB Battalion Headquarters at Naranseina and have been discharged from CHC Hospital after treatment.

The identity of the injured six village volunteers couldn't be confirmed as of yet but it has been learnt that they were first taken to Bishnupur district hospital and some of them have been referred to Raj Medicity.

It is reported that a heavy exchange of fire took place between the two sides on the intervening night of August 29 and 30 and today evening.

The Kuki militants fired and launched bomb attacks from the bunkers set up on the hilltops of Leingang, Nelpaching, Khoirentak and Kangathai using sophisticated weapons towards the western side of Naranseina and Thamnapokpi while the IRB, State police retaliated.

The firing had not stopped till the time of filing this report.
