Imphal, May 12 2010: Chief Minister, O Ibobi today called on Governor Gurbachan Jagat at the Raj Bhavan even as a meeting of the legislators of the Secular Progressive Front (SPF) government was convened by the Chief Minister in the late evening.

The Chief Minister met the Governor at 3 pm.

Though it is not known what was discussed during the meeting, sources assumed that the Chief Minister would have briefed the Governor on the prevailing situation in the state and the actions taken by the government to deal with the situation.

On the other hand, Chief Minister Ibobi convened a meeting of the legislators of the SPF at 5 pm at the conference hall of his secretariat and discussed the latest situation with regard to the proposed visit of Muivah to the state which has been deferred for now, and issues lying before the state including scarcity of essential commodities due to the prolonged economic blockade on the National Highways.

Use of NH-53 as alternative route to ferry essential commodities was also discussed at the meeting, sources said.

The State Cabinet on two occasions had taken decisions to procure essential commodities with security escorts on NH-53.The Cabinet had decided to start transporting the essential commodities from May 10 and later from May 12.But the decision is yet to materialize.

While the government is yet to translate the Cabinet decision into action, many vehicles are still stranded beyond Nagaland and can not proceed on NH-39 due to the prevailing situation in Nagaland-Manipur border.

Many goods laden trucks and oil tankers had left Khatkati in Assam for Silchar and Jiribam to reach Imphal on NH 53 .

Meanwhile, many people are said to be stranded at Noney and Awangkhul in Tamenglong district on NH 53.About 140 people from Imphal have remained stranded at Jiribam for the past one week.

They are taking shelter at Government Higher Secondary School, Jiribam.

The administration concerned has not yet provided any relief materials to the stranded people including many women.

Some of them are reported to be ill.

On the other hand, official source has claimed that there is no shortage of food in the state at present as above 7683.308 metric tones of rice for public distribution with additional stock of 1494.359 metric tones meant for emergency relief are there.

Another 180 metric tones of extra stock is in the FCS godown, an official source said.

Even though, LPG gas stock exhausted the petrol stock as on May 8 last was 567 kilolitre and 1611 kilolitre of diesel in the government oil depots and the stock position as on May 10 was 532 kilolitre of petrol and 1536 kilolitre of diesel, the source added.
