Imphal, March 07 2013:
Some wily drug smugglers of the State have been trafficking drugs to Myanmar after pounding tablets (which are used as drugs) to powder.
On the other hand, despite the Cabinet taking a decision on March 4 to hand over the Pallel drug seizure case to the CBI, the State Government is yet to formally approach the Centre on the matter.
This was discovered during the special operations undertaken by police at Lilong, Moijing and Sora areas of Thoubal district yesterday.
The operations were carried out at the instruction of Chief Minister O Ibobi to target illegal drugs and smugglers, said a source.
The operations were conducted by a combined team of Thoubal District Police, Imphal West District Police, Imphal East District Police, 1st MR, 7th MR, 8th MR, 6th IRB and 8th IRB.

In the course of the operation, large piles of empty capsules were found disposed at Ngangou paddy fields, Lilong and under culverts.
The empty capsules were disposed just like disposing domestic garbage at dumping sites.
The same practice of separating capsules and their contents which are later pounded to powder has been detected in Moreh too, informed a source.
To separate drug capsules and their contents, drug smugglers hire people and the contents are pounded to powder to deceive security forces.
These powdered drugs are sometimes taken to Moreh by couriers who also carried letters purportedly written by high-ranking Government officials declaring that the baggages are their belongings.
Even as the State Government has decided to hand over the drug seizure cases of Imphal airport and Pallel to the CBI, the State Government has not yet sent any official letter to the Union Home Ministry.
It is reported that the Home Department would send an official letter to the Home Ministry regarding hand over of the two particular cases to CBI in the next couple of days.
