Imphal, June 06, 2013: Mortal remains of Reingamphy Awungshi who was found dead in a suspicious manner in a rented room at South Delhi on May 29 were brought here today. At Imphal airport, Imphal Tangkhul Shannaolong received the mortal remains before the corpse was taken to Tangkhul Baptist Church where a condolence and prayer session was held in honour of the departed soul.

Later, the corpse was taken to Choithar village, Ukhrul district, the native place of Reingamphy Awungshi for the last rites.

Awungshi's parents who came to Imphal to receive their daughter's mortal remains contended that Awungshi did not kill herself but was murdered.

They also urged authorities concerned to book the culprits and punish them according to law.

AS Tharwant, the bereaved mother, said they sent their daughter to Delhi to work there so as to augment family income and help in the education of her brothers and sisters.

AS Chanbam, father of the deceased too maintained that her daughter was murdered.

Wounds seen on different parts of the body including eyes and nose indicated that it was a clear case of murder.

Notably, relatives and friends of Awungshi filed a complaint at Malviyanagar police station, Delhi stating that Awungshi was murdered after being raped.

However, Malviyanagar Police, in their first report, maintained that Awungshi died due to drug overdose.

This was strongly objected by relatives, friends, students and civil societies and they demanded that an FIR be registered in connection with the controversial death of Awungshi.

Subsequently, Delhi Police registered an FIR under IPC Section 306 and IPC Section 302 (added later).

Speaking to media persons at Tulihal Airport, Grace Shatshang observed that women are quite vulnerable in the national capital.

While urging both the Government of India and the Government of Manipur to deal the murder case with due seriousness, Grace Shatshang said that many youngsters are compelled to seek employment outside the State because of the high level of corruption and a very limited employment opportunities in Manipur.

The Government should ensure that working men and women as well students who hail from Manipur are secure outside the State.

According to family members, Awungshi went to Delhi to work in a beauty parlour after completing Class XII.

She was the sixth of the eight children born to her parents.

Tangkhul Katamnao Long Imphal president Pamreiso Raipeng accused Delhi Police of trying to cover up all the facts about the murder of Awungshi.

Even as post mortem of Awungshi's corpse has been conducted twice, no report is available till date.

The Government of India should ensure that justice is delivered to Awungshi and her bereaved family, and the Government of Manipur should exert strong pressure on New Delhi towards this end, he demanded.

Meanwhile, MLA MK Preshow Shimray has strongly condemned the brutal murder of Reingamphy Awungshi.

The culprit should be given befitting penalty and ensure that justice is done to Reingamphy's soul.

Condoling the death of Awungshi, Preshow Shimray said, "It is our prayer for you that God will give strength and comfort at the time of sorrow and anguish.

May her soul rest in peace".
