Two CRPF men killed in KYKL ambush

Imphal, August 07: Two CRPF personnel on ROP duty were killed while an-other was injured in a clinically executed ambush by militants on NH-53 today.

The militants made good their escape after taking one LMG and an INSAS Rifle along with aminos.

the proscribed KYKL has claimed that the ambush was undertaken by its Lalhaba Tengol.

The ambush was launched at Khongjol village, about 32 kms from here under Sapermeina police station at about 7.40 am to day.

According to reports collected from the spot, the CRPF personnel belong to 109 Bn are posted at Kotlien.

The troop came under heavy attack from suspected UG cadres who used lethod and machine guns while they were on ROP duty.

There was heavy ex-chage of fire between the two sides for about an hour.

Because of the shootout, all the men of surrounding villages fled to safer places.

Moreover, a large portion of the house belonging to the chief of L Hengjol village Paosei was also substantially damaged when a bomb exploded on the roof of the house.

On hearing about the ambush, additional AR and CRPF personnel rushed in and launched an extensive search operation.

P Mathuram (39) s/o SN Thangaswami of Sivaganga, Tamil Nadu was one of the personnel killed in the encounter.

The LMG allotted to him has been taken away by the UG cadres along with the ammunition.

The other victim has been identified as Manju Nath (23) s/o Malikarjuna of Sadharpur, Karnataka.

An INSA Srifleand ammunition was also taken away by the UG cadres.

The injured CRPF personnel has been identified as Suman Dev Nath (21) s/o Manik Dev Nath of Krishna Nagar, West Bengal.

Hit on the left thigh, he is admitted to RIMS.

Meanwhile, a statement issued by L Hengjoi village authority has strongly condemned the ambush which also resulted in injuries to two villagers.

The two civilians who sustained injuries in the shoot-out are Satlal (28) s/o Paosei and Boyce (20) w/o Lamkhogin.

While appealing to all UG groups not to undertake such attacks near civilian populated areas, the villagers also appreciated the security personnel who assisted in taking the injured civilians to hospital.
