CCTVs at CM's quarters found defunct

Imphal, September 03: Skeletons have come tumbling out of the closet of the security ar rangements for the Chief Minister with matter com ing to light that Close Circuit Television cameras in stalled around the official quarters of the CM are de funct.

What is more, the CCTV cameras have been defunct for the last three years, but no corrective measures were taken up.

The CCTVs were in stalled at the CMV resi dence as well as at the As sembly complex after the June 18, 2001 uprising in which parts of the CM's quarters were burnt while the Assembly was reduced to cinders.

After matter came to light that the CCTV cameras at the CM'S residence are de funct, it has been decided to replace them with ones from the Motorola company.

A reliable source said that along with replacing the defunct ones with new CCTV cameras, the same will also be installed at the Raj Bhawan and at some select points of Imphal.

Pending the arrival of the new set of CCTV cameras, the defunct ones were re paired today.

Apart from addressing the issue of the defunct CCTV cameras, a meeting held today in the aftermath of the audacious attack at the CM's residence on Sep tember 1, has also decided to start operations inside Sajiwa jail regularly.

Police commandos and CRPF men will conduct the operations.

The State police has also sent a report to the Union Home Ministry on the attack at the CM's residence.

The fact that the CCTV cameras were out of order came to the open during the series of meetings held yes terday to discuss the security arrangements at the official residence of the Chief Minister after the au dacious bomb attack.
