Ukhrul, August 14 2023:
Maj (retd) Hutovi Chishi Swu, member of Collective leadership of NSCN-IM, on Monday hoisted the Naga National flag with rainbow colours at UBC, Jubilee hall Phungreitang, Ukhrul in the presence of Naga leaders, CSOs and religious leaders.
A minute of silence prayer was observed in honour of Naga martyrs.
Hutovi Chishi Swu while speaking at the independence day programme stated Naga had struggled for more than seven decades to free Nagas from political dominance.
"We are not asking for independence, we are asking to accept our declaration of Independence on 14 August 1947", he said.
Nagas must be united in the fight for their rights, and must uphold the spirit of national principle "Nagalim for Christ" .
"The mighty India cannot defeat Nagas, because of our rights and the fearless sacrifice made by our past leaders against aggression", he said.
Chishi Swu also acknowledged the maximum contribution of the Tangkhul community in the Naga National movement for self determination.
The younger generation of Nagas must uphold the same spirit of nationalism and must not compromise the National cause for any vested reasons.
This will derail and delay in achieving the national goal of sovereignty, he said.
The fight for the common aspirations still going on, and Nagas will be integrated one day, he continued.
"We can't make any wrong this time, let us always stand in unity and move forward for our bright future", stated Chishi Swu.
The programme was also attended by Kilonsers, Deputy and Kilonsers from other areas including the son of late NSCN-IM chairman K Chisi Swu.
It may be mentioned that similar observances were held in various villages of Ukhrul district.
The rainbow coloured Naga flags were also hoisted in the offices of Tangkhul CSOs and churches of Ukhrul town and at the same time, Naga flags were seen fluttering across the streets of the town.
Meanwhile "Ride for Nagalim" adorned with Naga flag was taken out within Ukhrul town under the banner "Rejuvenating Naga nationalism, expedite Indo-Naga solution based on Framework Agreement" to mark the 77th Naga Independence Day.
