Imphal, December 22 2023:
Imagi Meira has appealed to the relevant authorities to convene a meeting of the Privilege and Ethics Committee of the Manipur Legislative Assembly within a week to discuss the alleged unethical conduct of 10 Kuki MLAs.
Addressing a press conference today at Manipur Press Club, Imagi Meira convenor Th Sujata Devi cautioned that if the Committee fails to convene a meeting and initiate appropriate actions against the Kuki MLAs demanding separate administration, members of the Assembly will be held accountable for any untoward incidents.
She said that it was rather unfortunate that all the members of Privileges and Ethics Committee except for Chairman & MLA Sapam Nishikant failed to turn up at a meeting convened by the same committee on Thursday to discuss the unethical conduct of 10 Kuki MLAs.
"In this regard, we visited the residences/ quarters of all the members but was unable to meet a single member as some were sick or out of station", said Sujata while adding despite the demand from all corners to take action against the 10 Kuki MLAs who are allegedly responsible for burning the State, the Privileges and Ethics Committee members have failed turn up for the meeting without considering the sentiments of the people.
Sujata further asked why the MLAs are allegedly shying away from the public during these difficult times when they should be stepping up to protect Manipur from those threatening its integrity.
