Imphal, December 12 2023: The Nupi Lan memorial day was observed widely across the State and beyond today.

The main observance was organised by the State Government at Nupi Lan Memorial Complex in the presence of Chief Minister N Biren Singh.

N Biren Singh led the gatherings which included the Council of Ministers, MLAs, Chief Secretary, DGP and top ranking police and civil officials in offering floral tributes at Nupi Lan Memorial Complex. After offering tributes, a formal function was held at the GP Women's College, Central Hall with the Chief Minister as the chief guest.

Speaking as the chief guest, the Chief Minister stressed on the need for all the communities residing in the State to stand together and face the challenges lying ahead.Continuing that many innocent people had lost their lives while thousands have been displaced amid the course of violence, he sought cooperation from everyone in restoring peace and normalcy in the State.

The Chief Minister also claimed that there is no extreme enmity between the two sides in the ongoing conflict as propagated by some.

Stating that Manipur is on the boil due to the aggressive attack of armed illegal immigrants on civilians, N Biren further appealed to all Manipuris to contribute in building a united Manipur again.

On the influx of Myanmar Nationals, the Chief Minister said that many of them are given shelter on humanitarian ground due to the situation in the neighbouring country and biometrics capturing drive is underway.

He said that biometrics of 1600 (approx) Myanmar Nationals have been captured by the Government till yesterday.Myanmar Nationals mostly enter Manipur mostly through Moreh, Behiang and Kamjong, he said and added that there is a report of over 1900 foreigners taking refuge at Kamjong's Namli (till yesterday) .

Informing that he is constantly in touch with the Chief Ministers of other North East States, the Chief Minister continued that other States should not interfere in the internal affairs of Manipur other than extending help to end the violence.

The Chief Minister, on the other hand, condemned the harassment of civilians unreasonably by a group of people by taking the law into their own hands.

He appealed to the public to inform the nearest police station if they come across any group harassing others.

Meanwhile, N Biren recalled the contribution of womenfolk in every crucial time of the State since time immemorial.

Recognising the selfless contribution of women, he announced two initiatives taken up by the State Government in their honour-renaming the road stretch from Governor's Traffic Point to Pureiromba Khongnangkhong as 'Nupi Lan Road' and the 'Chief Minister's Ima Nongthangleima Yaipha Tengbang Scheme' .

On the newly launched scheme, the Chief Minister informed that women who are above 40 years with no source of income and not covered under any welfare scheme taken up by the Government, would be provided financial assistance of Rs 6000 per annum (Rs 500 per month) .

The Chief Minister further recalled the role taken by Manipuri women in regaining their motherland from Awa during the Seven Years Devastation.

The other highlights of the observation at GP Women's College included Nupee Lan Drama presented by the Nupee Lan Memorial association Drama Party and presentation of songs by the artistes of Shri Shri Bal Mukunda Dev Government Music College, Imphal.
