AMWJU Football team tastes defeat

After tasting success in Badminton and Table Tennis in the ongoing 5th North East Media Sports Festival being organised by Assam Sports Journalists' Association, All Manipur Working Journalists' Union (AMWJU) tasted defeat for the first time in the 7 A-Side Football tournament today.
In the knock out basis tournament which was played at SAI Guwahati complex today morning, the AMWJU team was defeated by the team of Niyamia Barta, Assam by 1-0 goal.
The winning goal of Niyamia Barta was scored in a counter attack during the first half of the match.
Although players of AMWJU were in possession of the ball most of the time, they could not convert any goal.
Even the efforts made by Johnson (Poknapham), who could find the net the opponent team, went in vain as both the goals were declared from offside by the match referee.
In the second goal, the AMWJU team protested against the decision of the referee.
Accordingly, the match was stalled for some time.
It may be noted here in all 10 members of AMWJU are taking part in the 5th North East Media Sports Festival.
The AMWJU team is competing in only three disciplines, namely Table Tennis, Badminton and Football.
In Tabble Tennis, AMWJU team has already emerged champion in the Men's, Women's Individual and Team Event.
In Badminton, AMWJU has clinched the championship title as well as the runners-up title in the Men's Individual events.
The 5th North East Media Sports Festival is due to be concluded tomorrow.
