L.Inaobi Representing India Fund Drive Committee has appealed to the Manipur government and people of the state to enable athlete L.Inaobi to participate in the upcoming Veteran Athletic Championship, due to be held at Japan.
Addressing a press meet in this regard at Manipur Press Club here today, Jenendra Maibam, convener of the committee said that, the committee was formed jointly by Healthy Women Society, Lalambung Takhellambam Leikai Youth Development and Image of Manipur to help athlete Inaobi, who is also a cancer patient.
He informed that among 35 veteran athletes selected from all over the country by Master Athletic Federation of Bangalore, four of them have decided to go for the competition.
Athletes who want to take part in the competition need an amount of Rs.1 lakh and sixty thousand rupees to be borne by themselves.
Recently, Inaobi had undergone treatment for cancer at TATA Hospital at Mumbai and she has exhausted all her financial resources.
This has put her in a situation where Inaobi would not be able to participate in the championship at Japan.
Encouraging her willingness and challenging spirit to compete in the championship despite being a cancer patient, Jenendra observed that there are potentials to win a medal in the competition by Inaobi if the financial requirement is arranged by the government and the people.
