Imphal, August 07 2014:
Even as sit-in-protest demonstration to press the demand for implementation of Inner Line Permit system to check influx of outsiders continued unabatedly in different parts of the State, a public meeting held at Manipur Dramatic Union Hall here today has resolved that the ongoing public movement should not cease until the restrictive regime is re-introduced in the State to protect the interest of the native people.
The public meeting convened by Intellectual Meitei Patriots was held with RK Gopalsana and RK Rajendra, former Member of Manipur Human Rights Commission (MHRC) as Chief Guest and President respectively.
Sapamcha Jadumani, president of FREINDS; Dr Y Mani Khuman, president of AMUCO; L Lokendra, retd Colonel and Dr Y Mohen were also present on the occasion as Guests of Honor.
Among others who spoke at the meeting, Sapamcha Jadumani said that the ongoing agitation for implementation of ILP system in the State should not cease at any cost till the system is re-enforced as it is the need of the hour considering the implication of unchecked influx of non-locals.
He also reiterated that the demand for implementation of ILP is not to stop the entry of outsiders, but to monitor their movement by issuing necessary passes.
He observed that if the system is not implemented as soon as possible, the number of outsiders will surpass the population of indigenous people in the near future which in turn will affect peace and tranquility in the State.
Pointing out that the State government becomes active on the issue only when there is public outcry, Jadumani maintained that the government should follow suit other northeastern States where the system is already in place in the interest of their respective native people.
