MU register three medals in 2nd Khelo India University Games

Imphal, April 30 2022: Manipur University (MU) won a gold and two bronze medal in the 2nd Khelo India University Games 2022 being underway at Jain University, Bengaluru from April 24 .

Linthoi Haobam of Manipur University won the gold medal in the individual Epee event while Ph Anita settled for the bronze medal in the Individual Foil event, said Department of Sports MU in a press release.

Linthoi Haobam who is pursuing MA in Political Science (3rd Sem) topped the Pool league table beating all the five rivals before beating Akshita Maria of hosts Jain University to enter the final.

Linthoi, who had also won a silver medal in the previous edition of the Games then beat Kohli Chhavi of Punjab University 15-9 in the final to lay her hands on the gold medal, the release said.

Meanwhile, Phamdon Anita, finished second in the pool league stage and made it to the semi-final beating Dukhande Krushi of University of Mumbai 15-1.She however lost 11-15 to Bakshi Riya of Guru Nanak Dev University to contend for the bronze medal, it said.

Elsewhere, Bhumeshori Huidrom added another bronze medal to MU's tally by finishing third in the 1500 m race.

She took 4 minutes and 33.92 seconds to make the podium finish.

Mangalore University's Radha Sinha (4:31.43) earned the gold medal in the said event while Himachal Pradesh University's Sunita bagged the silver medal with a time of 4:32.07 .
