Aizawl likely to host I-League in January 2016

All India Football Federation (AIFF) inspection team on 20 July, 2015 inspected Rajiv Gandhi Stadium, Mualpui here which is proposed for the venue of I League 2016 and found the same to be good enough for the venue of I League.
Aizawl is therefore likely to host I League in January next year, the highest level football competition in India.
The AIFF inspection team on July 21, 2015 met with PWD Minister and Mizoram Football Association President Lal Thanzara at the latter's office during which they gave their inspection report and said the proposed stadium is good enough for the venue of I League.
PWD Minister and MFA President Lal Thanzara told the visiting AIFF officials that "Rajiv Gandhi Stadium is still in the making now, and that after completion, it will be of advanced standard" .
"As of now, only half is done in the mean time of which we are determined to do all the needful so that Aizawl FC plays I-League in January, 2016 here", he said, adding "We hope to be successful" .
AIFF inspection included Indranil Das, Assistant Manager, Club Licensing & League Operations; Akshay Rohatgi, Manager, I-League and Savio Medeira, Manager Coaching and Academy.
"If go as per your present plan, the stadium will be fit not only for I League but other matches under Asian Football Confederations and even international matches", AIFF official Indranil said.
Meanwhile, the work of refurbishing the inside of Rajiv Gandhi Stadium will need to be completed within this year, he added.
PWD Minister and MFA President on his part said, "Chief Minister Lal Thanhawla has told AIFF leaders of our plan to host I League.
We, accordingly, plan to make Rajiv Gandhi Stadium ready within this year for the venue of I League".
"The report of AIFF inspection team has made us happy", he added.
MFA Secretary Lalnghinglova Hmar apprised the AIFF officials of the needs for the stadium which are yet to be accumulated so as to host I League.
AIFF team verified the same and also approved the plan chalked out by the architects.
AIFF officials will come again for inspection in November next.
