Imphal, July 21 2015 :
Locals of Naoremthong Khulem Leikai in Imphal West district prevented the media from entering their locality today.
Although, reporters belonging to different media houses went to the locality to collect news regarding an unknown incident which happened in the house of Khulem Jiten, who had been accused of killing one of his uncles and injuring another uncle on June 30 last, they were not allowed to enter the locality by a large number of locals.
When this reporter reached the locality, a large number of womenfolk and locals were seen gathered there preventing even the team of Lamphel police station led by their OC Lamphel from entering the locality.
When some reporters tried to proceed further, some elderly women pushed them back.
They told the reporters that the incident which happened at Jiten's residence must not be reported in the media.
As such the reporters returned without knowing anything about the incident.
It may be mentioned that this was not the first time that media persons have been obstructed while moving to collect news in the State.
Although, All Manipur Working Journalists' Union (AMWJU) has been urging the public not to obstruct the media, such incidents are often reported from different parts of the State.
