Strong title contender SSU, Singjamei began their campaign in the 5th edition of the S Birendra Singh memorial Super League football tournament 2004 with a comfortable 3-0 win over NACO, Nambul Mapal at SAI RC ground today.
With soggy field condition denting performance of the players the first half ended without a goal being scored.
NACO�s L Bikram could have open the score account but his shot from close range hit the SSU post in the last minute of the first half.
SSU also had an opportunity to take the lead in the same session but Th Joychandra lacked clinical finishing.
Fourteen minutes after change of ends second half substitute L Romio capitalized on NACO custodian�s folly and slammed home the opener from close range.
Failure to clear an aerial threat by the NACO �keeper in the 77th minute following a Banny Chiru cross proved costly for the Nambul Mapal outfit as Th Joychandra struck the second SSU goal.
L Romio scored his second of the match and the team�s third two minutes into added period with Banny Chiru again being the provider.
Former hockey Olympian Ksh thoiba declared open the tournament as chief guest.
Tournament organizer IWDFA�s vice president M Achou Singh presided the function.
