A milkman was killed when suspected militants exploded a powerful bomb at a spot between Ningthoukhong Khakhunou and Thinungei under Bishnupur PS early this morning.
The deceased milkman has been identified as one Hari Prasad (22) s/o Bishnu Prasad of Laimanai.
He is survived by his wife and a child.
According to reports received from the blast site, a combined team of Bishupur Dist commandos and IRB personnel rushed to a spot between Ningthoukhong Kha Khunnou and Thinungei on receiving reports that a bomb had been planted under a culvert in the area by the UGs.
CRPF personnel of 7th Bn of Phubala, 28 th Bn CRPF Churachandpur and 132 Bn of Loktak Project later joined the State security forces and combed the area with the help of bomb experts.
Some wires were recovered from the area.
During the combing process, the CRPF personnel were fired upon by UGs from the nearby hill tops.
However no one was injured in the firing.
Although taken by surprise the CRPF personnel immediately retaliated and quickly moved towards the side from where the gunshots came.
While chasing the fleeing militants, a loud sound of a bomb explosion shook the area at around 10.30.Rushing to the site of the explosion, the CRPF personnel found a badly mutilated body about 100 mts from the explosion site, said the source adding that a crater about 6/7 ft deep and 10 ft wide was also created by the explosion.
Talking to media-persons, CO of the 132 CRPF Bn Subash Yadav said that the explosion might have occurred when the victim had already passed a few metres from the area where the bomb was planted.
Some wires and a 12 volt battery were also recovered from the blast site.
The victim's head and back were blown away by the impact of the blast.
The victim was later taken to he RIMS by the police for post mortem.
Following the blast CRPF personnel arrested eleven persons from the area but were later handed over to the police after necessary verification.
