Imphal, September 22:
The State Government has decided to conduct raids at various places including private hospitals, nursing homes and guest houses of public and private sector units where domestic LPGs are being used for non-domestic purposes.
The decision was taken following complaints raised by Indian Oil Co-operation Limited (Marketing Division) against the usage of domestic LPG (14.5 kg & 5 kg) cylinders for non-domestic purposes in violation of the provisions of Liquefied Petroleum Gas Regulation of Supply and Distribution Order, 200 and subsequent amendments.
Accordingly, strict instruction has been given to all the SPs of the district concerned to organize raids and conduct checks to detect and prevent unauthorised use of domestic LPG cylinders in non-domestic establishments and automobiles with their respective jurisdictions with immediate effect.
It has also been identified that the users who are on the wrong side of the law are hotels, restaurants, dhabas, tea stalls, road side eateries, (nursing homes, private hospitals, canteens, guest houses of public and private sector units, clubs, light motor vehicles, autorickshaws and other industrial users.
It is learnt that unauthorized use of domestic LPG for non-domestic purposes has been on account of subsidized rate of domestic LPG cylinders.
However, this has seriously affected the supply and distribution of domestic LPG leading to scarcity, hoarding and black marketing of the same and domestic consumers have been made to suffer in the process.
It has also been made clear that light motor vehicles, auto rickshaws cannot use non-domestic LPG (19 kg & 14 kg) cylinders as well as domestic LPG cylinders unless tanks are fixed as integral part of the automobiles.
