Even as six candidates filed their nomination papers for the Konthoujam by election ahead of the 3 pm deadline today, one woman candidate was stopped from filing her nomination papers by suporters of another candidate.
A total of six candidates including three independents have filed their papers.
The woman candidate who had come to file her nomination papers was forced to return today without filing her papers by workers of a particular candidate.
It may be noted here that the woman candidate had unsuccessfully contested the last general election.
According to reports, the woman candidate along with some of her workers who came to the Returning Officer's office located at Lamphel were stopped near the gate of the RO's office and prevented from entering the office by workers of a particular candidate.
The woman candidate and her workers finally left the scene after a heated argument without filing the nomination papers.The six candidates who filed their nomination papers are Opposition Political Parties Forum's common candidate Konthoujam Ranbir, SPF's common candidate Dr S Budhichandra, NCP's Heikrujam Thoithoi, MSCP's Angom Manihar and two independent candidate Soraisam Ibobi and Samom Nabakumar.
Scrutiny of the candidates will be done tomorrow while the last date of withdrawing the nomination papers has been fixed on September 25.Mention may be made here that by election had to be called for the Konthoujam AC following the election of its sitting MLA Dr T Meinya as a Lok Sabha MP.
Talking to The Sangai Express, Independent candidate Soraisam Ibobi today stated that he parted ways with the Congress (I) as he was totally against the stand taken by the party with regard to the imposition of AFSPA in the State.
Coming down heavily on the State Govt, S Ibobi said that the Congress led SPF Govt has no concern for the citizens of the State and is only interested in occupying the Ministerial berths.
