Imphal, November 13 2017:
Namkaolong and Chinkon defeated their respective rivals 2-0 while Neikanlong and Pantilong edged out their rivals 1 -0 in today's league matches of the 11th Jadonang Memorial Football tournament staged at Thangmeiband Athletic Union (THAU) ground.
28 teams divided into 8 groups are taking part in the memorial tournament which is organised by Zeliangrong Football Association.
In a Group C morning match, Namkaolong notched up a 2-0 victory against Chingmeirong.
Wikinbou Pamei took just seven minute to struck the opener to put NYC ahead with a 1-0 first half lead.
The Chingmeirong team tried hard to come back into the game but their efforts to restore parity failed.
After the breather, it was Kamthui who carried the ball inside the box past a few defenders and fired in a clinical shot that went crashing through the net to score the second goal for NYC in the 65th minute of the match.
Luckless CRYC came back with some fine runs but their offensive moves were thwarted by the tight defence line of NYC.
Eventually NYC wrapped up the game 2-0 .
In a Group D league match of the morning batch, Neikanlong (NYC) beat Sawombung (SKYC) by a narrow 1-0 in a hard fought match.
Both teams started the game swiftly with fine runs down the flanks to find the target.
Cinger Gangmei got a calculated pass at the edge of the box from the right flank and managed to intrude deep in the rival's territory.
He then took no time in ruffling the net in the 23rd minute to give Neikanlong the 1-0 lead which remained unchanged till the final whistle.
In the Group-C league match staged at 1 pm, Chinikon (CYC) blanked Namching with ease.
Tony Pamei struck the opener in the 14th minute to give CYC a 1 -0 lead in the first half.
Angampu Thaimai then extended the lead by 2-0 when he found the net in the 51st minute.
Namching also tried to come back into the match in the second half but their attempts either went too wide or were nullified by the defence line of CYC.
In the last match of the day, Group A teams Pantilong (PYC) and KADI (UUKFC) played out a keen contest.
It was Gaichui Kamei whose first half goal gave PYC the winning goal.
Gaichui left defenders of KADI flat-footed and cracked a power packed shot past the custodian in the 17th minute which was enough to carry his team through.
