UKHRUL, November 13 2017:
Despite the assurance of Chief Minister N Biren to start repairing the road of Ukhrul town during his visit to the district headquarters on April 11 .
This year, no visible result can be seen on the road till date and people are now reeling under the cloud of dusts kicked up from the road by the ever increasing number of motor vehicles.
Speaking to the media, president of Ukhrul Passengers Service Association, Khayui Raleng said that soon after the announcement of the Chief Minister, some work restricted to laying of shingles on the road were taken up but this too came to a halt much to the chagrin of the people.
If the previous Congress Government allowed the road to lay in shambles, the present is maintaining a stoic silence despite having a good knowledge of how the road has been left to the inclement of the weather.
Taking the long neglect of the road into consideration, the president of UPSA urged the Government to start repairing the road within this week.
If the authority concerned does not take up tangible steps to repair the road within a week's time, then UPSA will resort to intense form of agitation, warned Raleng and added that the 8-9 kms stretch of road is full of potholes.
Such is the situation that the UN Google satellite mapping had urged the people to stay 10 metres away from the road at Ukhrul as the dust kicked up is injurious to health, added Raleng.
Terming the negligence of the State Government in repairing the road of the town as nothing but sticking to the footsteps of the previous Govt, he said that this is now the working season and the Government cannot fall back on lame excuses such as 'non-working season' .
With the festive season already on, the number of vehicles on the road of Ukhrul is increasing everyday and people have no option but to use the road as there are no alternatives as the circular road on the eastern and western sides is not motorable at the moment.
UPSA on behalf of all the citizens of Ukhrul town appealed to the Government to start repairing the town road and complete the task before Christmas.
Failure to comply with the request of the people will not be taken lightly, warned UPSA.
