2 AR men killed in Cdl bomb blast

Imphal, November 13 2017:
At least two personnel of 18 Assam Rifles were killed and six more injured in a powerful IED attack by suspected underground militants, some 50 metres away from the 18 AR Headquarters 1 st gate, early morning today, under Chandel district.
According to reliable information, the incident occurred along DC road to 18 AR HQs, Mahamani village in between the HQ's 1st and 2nd gate, when the AR personnel went out for a road opening party and morning personnel training along the road.
The IED blast is suspected to have been carried out using a remote controlled device as the incident happened when both the ROP team and other AR personnel went out for their morning personnel training.
Two AR personnel, who were among the morning training personnel, were killed instantaneously by the blast while six others, including personnel of the ROP team, sustained injuries.
The two deceased AR personnel have been identified as Rifleman Indra Singh and Rifleman Sohan Lai.
The injured jawans were taken to their Battalion hospital for first aid before being airlifted by helicopters to Leimakhong military hospital for treatment.
They have been identified as Rifleman S Sarkar, Rifleman M Shyamkumar, Rifleman Tirendra Nath Das, Rifleman Ram Govind Singh, Rifleman Nirmal Roy and Rifleman Lalpunia.
Soon after the blast, high ranking officers of Assam Rifles and Chandel police rushed to the spot and inspected the site.
The security personnel also prevented anyone from going near the incident site and also cordoned off Mahamani village as well as other surrounding villages to search for the presence of any other explosive devices in and around the area.
Sources also stated that a team of State bomb experts also rushed to the spot and investigated the incident site and its surroundings.
Chandel police station has taken up a case regarding the incident.
Decrying the bomb attack, Chandel Naga People's Organisation and the locals staged a protest at Chandel DC crossing today afternoon.
All the shops and other business establishments remained closed in the entire Chandel district HQs to protest the IED blast at Mahamani village by unidentified suspected underground militants.
Some media persons who went to cover the news, were reportedly prevented by security personnel from going near the incident site to get the real/ actual news and footage of the incident site.
The bodies of the deceased AR personnel were deposited at JNIMS morgue for post mortem by a team of Chandel police and Assam Rifle personnel, today evening.
It may be mentioned that the BJP led State Government held its Cabinet meeting at Chandel Mini Secretariat, Chandel DHQ, on November 4, which is located some two kilometres away from today's blast site.
