Suspension bridge caved in

Jiribam, November 13 2017:
The suspension bridge at Nungdolan, near Sibilong village, located along National Highway 37, Imphal-Jiribam road slightly caved in under the weight of a loaded T ata truck at around 7 am today, resulting the vehicle plunging into the river.
The driver and the handyman manage to jumpped of the vehicle it fell.
According to a source, the incident occurred when the suspension bridge began to tilt after the Tata truck (registration number NL-04B 1122), loaded with cement, reached the middle part of the bridge.
The driver and the handyman jumped off the truck to safety but the truck fell into the river below and suffered irreparable damage.
The source pointed out that the gradual decrease in the strength of the bridge and the lack of regular and proper maintenance by the authority concerned may have been the prime reason for the accident.
Around 100 loaded trucks bound, for Imphal from Jiribam are stranded due to the bridge's precarious condition.
