Imphal, April 09 2009:
The title race for the 3rd Manipur State league Football Tournament is tantalisingly poised after SSU, Singjamei thrashed YWC, Thambalkhong 7-0 in a second leg match today that placed the team to the top on 48 points.
However, as SSU have completed its campaign of 22 matches the last match of the league competition between reigning champion NISA, thangmeiband and TRUGPU, Nambol on April 12 at Khuman Lampak Main stadium will decide the winners as a win for either NISA or TRUGPU would overlap SSU.
A draw in the NISA versus TRUGPU clash would mean SSU wresting the coveted title on better goal average.
Title contender SSU, who won the first leg match against YWC at 2-1, scored the thumping victory in its final outing today on goals from Y Sachinandan (1st), Gaichungam Kamson (6th), L Tiken (7th, 22nd, 74th) and E Abocha (19th, 29th) .
MPSC, who also have an outside chance of bagging the runners-up position, recorded an emphatic 12-0 rout of NLYC, Churachandpur after the first leg tie was won at 6-0 .
MPSC are on 48 points but with an inferior goal average compared to SSU.
N Deshkumar scored four of the police goals against the hapless NLYC, while three each from Th Rohen and Ksh Kanta, and one apiece by K Somochandra and Md Zia-ulhaque completed the rout.
