MLA Surajkumar provides sports equipment to boxer

Pointing out that sportspersons, who have strong potential to play at the international level and bring laurels for the state, are deprived training or practice in their respective disciplines due to prevailing Covid-19 pandemic situation, Khangabok MLA Surajkumar Okram urged state government and Sports Authority of India to look into the matter.
The MLA expressed concern over fate of the state's talented sportspersons due to the pandemic-induced cessation of sports activities after handing over sports equipment to Naorem Babyrojisana Chanu, daughter of Robindro and Sanajaobi Devi of Samaram Mayai Leikai in Ihoubal district on thrusday.
Babyrojisana has won gold medals at various interna tional events in boxing.
The MLA opined that as the ongoing Tokyo Olympics at its last leg the time is right for the state's sportspersons to start training for the next Olympics.
In view of the present Covid-19 pandemic situation, there is the need to look for potential players and begin their training in their respective homes, he added.
Babyrojisana is a boxer who began her training at the Mary Kom Academy and has won several gold medals in international junior lev el events, Surajkumar informed, while adding that the equipment were provided to her as she is planning to set up a make-shift training place near her house due to Covid-19 pandemic situation.
Assuring of extending all possible help to her, Surajkumar urged local clubs and the people to help and support her so that she may qualify in the next Olympics.
