Biswajit reviews work progress of MGNREGS

Rural Development and Panchayati Raj minister Thongam Biswajit Singh on Thursday held a review meeting on the implementation of the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme in the state through video conferencing from his New Secretariat office chamber.
Minister Biswajit acknowledged that general public are facing many hardships because of the pandemic and that proper implementation of the MGNREGS will provide some relief for them.
He therefore asked the DPCs and officials concerned for proper and timely utilisation of the Rs 1,65,50,75,000 package sanctioned by the Finance department as the last instalment of the Rs 4,85,50,75,000 released by the Union government as its share and the Rs 53,94,53,000 state share to clear liabilities for 2021 .
He continued that the central ministry has approved 49 mandays for the year 2021 22 and further requested the DPCs to achieve the said mandays by September-end, so that state can propose for more mandays during the Labour budget review meeting which is likely to be held in October.
He said that the activities under MGNREGS have also been included in the permitted activities of the Home department.
During the conference, officials of the district administrations also highlighted issues they are facing in meeting the state target.
Biswajit also appealed to all who are eligible to take the COVID vaccine which is being provided free of cost under the leadership of the prime minister and the chief minister to collectively tackle the COVID-19 pandemic.
The meeting was attended by additional chief secretary (RD&PR) MH Khan, deputy secretary (RD&PR) Lalrobul Fimate, deputy commissioners and DPCs (MGNREGS) among others.
