Imphal, August 05 2021:
All Manipur Students' Union (AMSU) has sought the central government s immediately intervention in the Assam-Mizoram border dispute and to take necessary arrangement for lifting the economic blockade against Mizoram.
In a press communique to the government of India, AMSU said that a heart-breaking incident had happened in the past few weeks at Assam-Mizoram border and attributed the various long-standing inter-state border disputes in the north eastern region to the union government's negligence and lack of policy for bringing amicable solution to the boundary issues.
"The boundary issue can be resolved only through political dialogue, not by imposing force," the students' body maintained.
"Even during this pandemic, some groups of people of Assam are still blocking every route to Mizoram.
All essential items including medicine and Covid- related drugs are stranded in Assam.
They even threatened Tripura for helping Mizoram.
Such an act is inhuman and this type of incident will bring chaos between the two states," it cautioned.
AMSU then urged the union government to take up necessary steps to involve organisations of both the states so as to solve the border issue and lift the economic blockade imposed against Mizoram.
The Union also appealed to all the people living in the boundary area to stay calm and maintain peace and harmony in the north eastern region.
In the meantime, AMSU expressed its deepest condolences to the bereaved families who lost their loved ones in the border dispute and urged all concerned to ensure that such incident does not recur.
