Chief Judicial Magistrate Imphal East today ordered release of 22 out of 28 individuals who were arrested for violating curfew and allegedly attacking police personnel on duty on furnishing of Rs 50 thousand PR bond each.
The 28 accused including 6 women were produced before the Court on completion of their police custody remand along with a prayer for remanding them to judicial custody.
On the other hand, defence counsels of the accused filed a remand objection and prayed for their bail.
The IO of the case through APP submitted that a group of people, on July 30 last, attacked a police team on duty at Khurai Heikrumakhong by pelting stones, damaging a Government vehicle and injuring one personnel.
Saying that the team was also making inquiries to arrest one Abba Khan who is allegedly involved in a case registered at Heingang Police Station for pelting stones at the police, the IO continued that instances of attacking and rioting against police on duty have become common occurrence in the area.
During investigation, it has been learnt that accused Thomas Velung, Ajij Khan, MV Akbar, L Ejimuddin, Ruhima, Rekson, Sahista, Manira and Thoibi played the main role in instigating the mob, the IO claimed and prayed for the judicial remand of the 9 accused.
The Court after hearing both sides and after perusal of the case record and material on record remanded R Thomas Velung, Ajij Khan, MV Akbar, L Ejimuddin, Manira and Rekson to judicial custody and ordered to release the remaining accused on bail.
