Imphal, January 25, 2011:
Refuting the charge labeled against him by the Manipur Chemists and Druggists Association (MCDA) for prescribing sub standard drugs to his patients, Dr GS Mopirangthem, Professor of RIMS Surgery Department said that the claim of MCDA was like an act to bring defamation to him.
During a press meet held in his office chamber, Dr GS Moirangthem said that MCDA point out only his name and undisclosed of other doctors in its claim which was published on some local dailies.
Doctors in the state prescribe some of the medicines showed to them by Medical Representatives thinking that they might have permission from the government side.
He further said that MCDA is not a government authority to check components and standards of the various drugs and medicines available in the state.
State Drug Controller is the authority to check the matter.
Till now the doctors in the state do not receive any intimation or order from the side of State Drug Controller not to prescribe the said medicines.
MCDA also did not intimate the doctors not to prescribe the medicines.
He did not prescribe the medicines to his patient intentionally.
He further said that he and other doctors will not prescribe the medicines in future as they know the truth about the medicines.
Meanwhile, State Drug Controller, Directorate of Health Services Manipur has declared the Glace-AD capsules, Glace-L syrup, TX-Original injection and Folcare suspension are sub standard misbranded drugs which will create great havoc to the health of innocent patients and informed all the doctors and specialists of the state not to prescribe the said medicines until further orders.
MCDA also appealed to the pharmacies not to sale the drugs further.
If any pharmacy or any person has the drugs in their custody, they should give back the drugs to MCDA, a press release stated.
