Meet resolves to banish man for rape attempt

A public meeting held today at Kyamgei Maning Leikai has resolved to banish a man who reportedly molested and attempted to rape a woman.
One Chingakham Subashchandra (35) s/o Ch Shyamjai of Kyamgei Maning Leikai reportedly attempted to rape a girl of his locality in front of the woman's father at about 3.30 pm yesterday.
Ch Subashchandra is a married man and has three children.
As Subashchandra attempted to rape the girl, her father could not do anything as he is very weak due to prolonged illness besides being 70 years old.In connection with the incident, a public meeting was held today at Kyamgei Maning Leikai under the joint aegis of the Kyamgei Gram Panchayat, All Kyamgei Nupi Chaokhat Thourang Lup and Kyamgei Youth Pioneer Club.
The meeting resolved to banish Subashchandra together with his wife and children from Kyamgei for five years.
Speaking to The Sangai Express today, the victim woman who is around 33 years of age said that Chingakham Subashchandra was known in the locality for his lecherous attitude towards women.
"He came to our house at around 12.30 pm yesterday and stayed around enquiring about my father's health.
At this, my father saw him off to his house�, the women narrated.
But Subashchandra came back again.
At this point of time, the woman's father was at the gate while the woman was in their kitchen garden plucking pulses.As she saw Subashchandra entering their house, the woman ran after him and enquired why he was entering their house while nobody was inside.
As the woman went back to the kitchen garden and resumed plucking pulses, she was suddenly embraced from behind by Subashchandra.
In the next moment, he pushed the woman to the ground and the two grappled for a few seconds.
The woman resisted Subashchandra's attempt all her might and succeeded in running away from the spot to his father.
The father said that he saw the whole scene and shouted repeatedly to Subashchandra to stop what she was doing but the pervert paid no heed.
"If I had the strength, he would have known what a father can do to protect the modesty of his daughter�, the seething father said.
The victim and Subashchandra were present in today's public meeting.
The meeting further resolved to exclude Subashchandra's family from all community and social events.
