Lamka, January 25, 2011:
Churachandpur, the state's largest district is all set to witness the grandest Republic Day celebration ever today as some thirty-five march past contingents alongside seven departmental Tableaus will hit the celebration venue at Lamka public ground.
As is the tradition, the Deputy Commissioner Jacintha Lazarus will unfurl the national flag and take the salute from the contingents.
But the day's attraction will be the historic seven tableaus that will features for the first time and the weapons display of the Assam Rifles.
Talking to The Sangai Express today, the lady commissioner said seven major departments, including the PWD, PHED, Electricity, Education, DRDA, Medical and the ADC will present a tableau each while five minor departments have erected gates along the main roads.
The weapon display of the Assam Rifles will as well be a fresh entrance to the celebration.
Marred often by boycott calls, the country's two grandest celebration of Republic and Independence Day celebrations here have remained a modest affair since the later part of 1990s but the signing of a tripartite SoO by the hill based armed groups and the government since 2008 have left these celebrations unscathed, paving the way for a grand celebration such as today's. Cultural dances, Choreography, Band performance from Assam Rifles and exhibition football match will be the other attractions of the country's 61st Republic day.
