Governor, others convey R-Day greetings

The Governor Gurbachan Jagat as well as GOC 3 Corps, GOC Red Shield Division and IGAR (South) have greeted the people of Manipur on the occasion of Republic Day, to be celebrated tomorrow.
In his message, the Governor highlighted that on this day in 1950 �we the people of India gave ourselves a Constitution and declared India a sovereign, Secular and Democratic Republic to shape our own destiny'.
Conveying that the occasion marks the beginning of a new era to build our society on a more humane and just basis, free from discrimination, economic inequalities and religious prejudices, the Governor stated that Republic Day is a day when �we salute, remember and express our gratitude to our valiant freedom fighters - both known and many more unknown, who made supreme and selfless sacrifices in the long freedom struggle, and the learned and distinguished statesman who frames our Constitution'.
Further conveyed that the occasion reminds all of the added responsibilities and opportunity to make the country stronger and more prosperous, he also noted that 21st Century being the Century of Asia every citizen should strive to transform the India as one of the leaders towards fulfilment of the prediction.
"In fact, the Constitution of India has served for our young democracy to establish rule of law and assert the supremacy of the people.
Indian democracy has stood the trials and tests of time and the supremacy of the people has been demonstrated time and again through the ballot in successive elections,� maintained Gurbachan in his message to the people.
Expressing that India today stands taller in the eyes of the freedom loving people of the world and the status is on the rise internationally, he also called upon the people to resolve to uphold and promote the secular, socialist and democratic values enshrined in the Constitution and also to work unitedly for making the country stronger and more prosperous.
Meanwhile, GOC 3 Corps Lt Gen NK Singh and GOC Red Shield Division Maj Gen DS Hooda have conveyed their greetings to the people of Manipur on the occasion of the 61st Republic Day of the country.
On this occasion, we should resolve to contribute our best in our individual capacities for the betterment and prosperity of the State.
May this resolve usher into the State a new era of peace, prosperity and happiness and may God bless all the citizens of Manipur, a PIB (DW) release quoted DS Hooda as saying.
In his message, IGAR (S) Maj Gen CA Krishnan on behalf of all ranks of Assam Rifles extended warm greetings and sincere goodwill to all the people of Manipur on the auspicious occasion of Republic Day.
He also wished that the occasion herald era of peace, harmony and unity, and bring the people together irrespective of caste, creed and faith.
On the otherhand, locals of senapati and Tamenglong districts joined hands with the security forces in saluting the indomitable spirit of progress of the country as people of all ages participated in various programmes and competitions organised by Army and Assam Rifles units under the aegis of 59 Mountain Brigade as part of pre-Republic Day functions.
The celebration commenced on January 20 with an inter-village volleyball competition at Tamei sub-division organised by Tamei Youth Club with the assistance of 10 Dogra battalion.
A drawing and debate competition was also organised by Tame sub-divisional authorities with prominent personalities of Tamei as judges.
The theme of the drawing competition was �Manipur the Jewel of India', informed the PIB (DW) release adding that it was followed by a debate competition on the topic �Role and Employment of Armed forces in Disturbed Areas'.
Regarding events conducted at Tamenglong it is informed that an open badminton championship for youth was conducted while a volleyball tournament �is being organised at Saikul in Senapati district by Saikul post of 43 Assam Rifles'.
Teams from 12 surrounding villages are participating in the volleyball tournament.
A free medical camp was also organised by the 43 Assam Rifles in which more than 600 patients were treated and medicines distributed free of cost, the PIB (DW) release added.
