Ambulances distributed

Altogether ten ambulances which would used for referral transport in the five hill districts of Manipur were distributed today by the State Health Society under National Rural Health Mission at function held at Imphal Hotel here.
The function was graced by Health Minister Phungzathang Tonsing, Principal Secretary (Family Welfare) Dr Suhel Akhtar, Health Services Director Dr A Bijoy and State Health Society Mission Director O Ibomcha as presidium members.
Speaking at the occasion, Phungzathang Tonsing noted that Manipur is second in rank among all the States of India in terms of low mortality rate related to child delivery.
For this, he hailed all the people engaged in health sector.
Maternal mortality rate during child delivery in Manipur 11 per 1000 while the corresponding figure of Goa which is ranked above Manipur is 9 per 1000 .
Stating that the ambulances (Bolero jeeps) distributed today are meant for use in hill districts, Phungzathang explained that these ambulances would be used in shifting expecting mothers from one hospital to another.
O Ibomcha said that the ambulances would be used for referral transport under JSSK.
