State has no fixed policy to control pollution

Forest and Environment Minister Th Devendra has disclosed that the State Government has no fixed policy to control pollution, but it would check pollution level in passenger vehicles in collaboration with the Transport Department.
He was replying to a query raised by MLA RK Imo during the Question Hour of the ongoing 5th Session of 10th Manipur Legislative Assembly today.
RK Imo contended that the State Government needs to be proactive in controlling pollution in the backdrop of much concerned issues of global warming and climate change all over the world.
Minister Devendra endorsed the contention, and stated that the Transport Department would be instructed to check pollution level in all vehicles.
Replying to a question of MLA L Nandakumar, Works Minister Dr Kh Ratankumar said that there are programmes for expansion and improvement of Uripok-Kangchup Road from Sorbon Thingel to Iroishemba Hills under Special Plan Assistance (SPA).
The road would be expanded by 15 metres, he added.
Answering to MLA Th Shyamkumar, Education Minister M Okendro said that the State Government is considering regularization of part-time lecturers of Government higher secondary schools who have been working for more than 15 years.
Replying to MLA of Wabagai Constituency Fajur Rahim, PHE Minister I Hemochandra said that the water supply schemes at Hayel, Khelakhong and Irong Chesaba would be completed shortly and pipelines would also be laid in due course of time.
Answering to MLA P Brojen, Education Minister M Okendro stated that some Government schools have already obtained the land pattas while other schools are also in the process of obtaining the pattas.
Replying to MLA Th Bishwajit, Works Minister Kh Ratankumar said that there is no provision for construction of footbridge in Imphal City.
Answering to MLA Dr I Ibohalbi, Education Minister Okendro said that the State Government is planning to convert good Government-aided schools into Public-Private Partnership (PPP) Model.
Replying to MLA S Bira, Forest and Environment Minister Devendro stated that there are 204 Sangais at Keibul Lamjao as per the census report of March 13, 2013.One range office and two check posts have also been set up for protection of Sangais and there are three tourist spots for watching the Sangais.
MLA Bira expressed happiness over increase in the population of Sangai and further urged the authorities to take care of this rare fauna of the State.
