Imphal, December 24 2016:
After rumours of Nationalist Congress Party merging with the Indian National Congress surfaced following the only elected MLA of the NCP joining the Indian National Congress recently, NCP has clarified that the party is still intact and will contest in the upcoming Assembly election.
Addressing mediapersons today at Manipur Press Club, Imphal, newly appointed president of NCP S Iboyaima clarifies that certain leading local newspapers have reported NCP merging with INC.
The report is completely baseless and false.
He added that NCP is still intact and will not merge with any other political party to contest in the upcoming election.
"MLA Laishom Ibomcha who won the previous election from NCP ticket joined the Congress party on his own accord and it does not mean the party, as a whole, is merging with the Congress or other political party," he informed.
Vice president of NCP Manipur State Y Iboyaima said that the ongoing economic blockade called by the United Naga Council (UNC) has created tremendous hardships to the people.
As such, both the Centre and State Government should chalk out plans to prevent such incident in future.
He said that the entire Naga communities settled in various parts of the State are not to be blamed for the prevailing issue.
Only certain sections of the community with vested interest are creating such a problem.
It is high time for the State Government to identify the perpetrators and take stern action against them.
Further he said the entire people of Manipur should take the State Government to task for not taking up immediate steps to neutralise the hardships faced by the common people.
Instead of solving the prevailing problem, both the Central Government and State Government are busy taking political mileage out of the issue.
Such act is condemnable and should not be encouraged by the people, he said.
NCP will host a non-Congress and non-BJP political conference on December 27 at State Guest House, he said and urged all political parties of the State to take part in the conference.
