MSCW moots branches in every district

Manipur State Commission for Women (MSCW) Chairperson in-charge Thumlip Tiningpham Monsang has said that the commission is planning to open its branch offices at every district of the State to reduce grievances of women in remote areas.
Speaking to the media at the office of MSCW at Lamphelpat today, the Chairperson in-charge further said that the Commission will either join hands with the CSOs working for the cause of women or with Police Department to ensure pathe plan materialises.
She asserted that women in interior parts of the State often face the problem of inaccessibility to legal rights.
Highlighting the initiatives taken up by the commission, Thumlip Tiningpham Monsang conveyed that it has already prepared draft rules to be sent to the State Government for approval.
She added the commission has also conducted a meeting with the State's Social Welfare Director and discussed the commission's rules.
Maintaining that the Commission is calling a report from Police Department regarding pending cases related to women in the State, the Chairperson in-charge continued that the commission also held a meeting with all the SPs recently on the pending cases of women in the Police Department.
She informed that Tamenglong district and seven other newly created districts are also yet to have women police stations till date.
Observing that studying their status is vital in empowering women, Thumlip Tiningpham Monsang said that the commission would conduct a study on the status of women to know their conditions in the State in January next year.
"Apart from planning to invite women entrepreneurs of Manipur to give grants to them, the commission has also started organizing legal awareness programmes which will cover all the districts of the State", she added.
When asked about the number of cases taken up by MSCW this year, the Chairperson in-charge asserted that the commission had received a total of 76 cases, out of which 13 have been closed and 63 are still open.
She went on to say that the pandemic had hampered the commission a lot in carrying out its activities, particularly in receiving and taking up cases.
