MSCW to open grievance cell in all districts: Chairperson

Manipur State Commission for Women (MSCW) chairperson in-charge Thumlip Tiningpham Monsang has said that the commission is planning to set up one each grievance cell in all the districts of the state so that crime against women could be timely and effectively tackled.
Addressing a press conference held on Tuesday at the office of MSCW here, Thumlip Tiningpham Monsang, who took over as chairperson in-charge of the commission from November 27, said that women of the state could not fully exercise and enjoy their rights in spite of being that they have their own legal rights.
Now is not the time for women to conceal crime committed against them for fear of social discrimination or stigma, she stressed.
According to Thumlip Monsang, the com mission has been conducting legal awareness campaign in every district so that women living in every nook and corner of the state are aware about their legal rights and get justice when crime is committed on them.
When women face torture, they face immense difficulty in approaching the commission.
As such, the commission is planning to open grievance cells in all 16 districts of the state so that this problem could be solved and women issue could be timely attended, she added.
Thumlip Tiningpham Monsang further said that incidents of crime against women reduced in the year 2021 compared to past years and the commission recorded only 76 cases this year.
Of the total, 63 cases have been settled already while the remaining cases could not be settled till date due to COVID-19 pandemic.
However, the commission is planning to settle the remaining cases at the earliest, she added.
Regarding the December 12 Mayang Imphal Konchak incident involving a research scholar of JN University, Delhi, Thumlip Tiningpham Monsang said that the commission will not only take up a suo moto case but will also lodge an FIR at the police station concerned.
She also said that help of police is required in commission's activities.
She then appealed government to open women police stations in all the 16 districts so that the commission could get cooperation from police and facilitate activities of the commission.
The press conference was also attended by MSCW members Lourembam Dayabati and T Chuongsin Koireng.
