Seminar on Manipuri language begins

A two-day long national seminar on the theme of 'A journey of Manipuri Literature-Past, Present and Future' organised by Directorate of Language Planning and Implementation, Manipur, began at the Court Hall of Manipur University on Tuesday.
Inaugurating the seminar as chief guest, MU VC Prof N Lokendro said that Manipuri Language and literature is considered as one of the most productive at the intellectual academic level.
Manipuri language, literature and culture have been in existence since ancient times, which begs the question of origin of the people of the state.
The vast literary wealth of the state is highly valuable and deserves international recognition.
If the existing texts were to have regional translations, certain aspects of the ancient and medieval times could be determined, he added.
"It is our responsibility to preserve and promote this rich literary wealth of the state.
Manipur's sense of beauty is unique and different from others.
Thus, gathering these various cultural facets Will aid in the process for inclusion of Manipuri Language in the list of classical languages of the country," Prof N Lokendro stated.
The inaugural function was also attended by Language Planning and Implementation director Th Chitra and Manipuri advisor Board, Sahitya Akademi, New Delhi convenor N Kirankumar as president and guest of honour respectively.
