Chakpikarong village celebrates centenary

Commemorating 100 years of settlement, Chakpikarong Village organised centenary celebration at the Centenary Ground of the village in Chandel district for two days starting Monday.
Organised under the theme of "Establishing the Fountain of Prosperity", the celebration commenced with hoisting of the celebration flag by the village chief and Centenary Celebration convenor Ts Berek.
This was followed with unveiling of a monuaientof the'Centenary Celebration by Bd Lumhring.
On the first; day of the celebration, Apostle Church of Manipur Centre Pastor Reverend RT Changhman attended as blessing minister and spoke about God.
The second day of the celebration on Tuesday was attended by Autonomous District Council Tamenglong caretaker chairman Namsingrei Panmei as chief guest, Tengnoupal MLA D Korungthang as president, and Lambung Baptist Church Pastor Reverend SNG Nelson as blessing minister.
Speaking on the occasion, Chakpikarong village chief Ts Berek recounted that the original village was Khubung Khunou but after embracing Christianty, the village was relocated to the present Chakpikarong Village.
He then urged the villages to love one another and stay united, so as to help in further development of the village.
In his speech, MLA D Korungthang pointed out that love is what unites people, not materialistic possession.
Prosperity and development only come after Iove.
Chakpikarong is able to live in peace and harmony due to the love among its residents, thereby leading to its development, he maintained.
Paying his respect to the elders of the village, the MLA maintained that the present generation is able to live well and in peace due to the efforts of our forefathers.
Thus, the present generation must work equally hard for the welfare of the future generation by learning to coexist with one another peacefully.
He then wished for the Centenary Celebration to usher in peace and prosperity not only to the village but also to the entire state.
As part of the celebration, Lambung Baptist Church Pastor Reverend SNG Nelson released a souvenir, which was followed with cultural performances of Anal tribe.
