Death stalks cattle in Phaibung again

Cattle dying under mysterious circumstances has been reported yet again in Phaibung Khullen village of Senapati district.
The first case was reported on September 30 and with the latest incident on Tuesday, more than 10 heads of cattle have perished under mysterious circumstances.
Mention may be made here that a team of the district veterinary department had rushed to the spot and enquired about the disease affecting the cattle.
The department had reportedly vaccinated some, including those needing medication which were found off-feed.
However, villagers stated that it is a challenging task to administer medicines to the infected cattle.
The same symptoms of bloating stomach, swollen neck and off-feed are being reported, besides some sort of mouth disease and nose bleeding were also detected from the carcasses of the livestock.
The recurrence of such cattle death started in the middle week of December.
Some cattle are reported to be suffering from mysterious diseases while whereabouts of some are not known, whether dead or alive in the jungle.
The villagers with no means buried the carcasses of the cattle where they were found.
Buffaloes are considered as the main source of income for farmers in the region.
Local residents of Phaibung Khullen villagers appealed to the authority concerned to look into the loss of the farmers due to frequent death of cattle and take up appropriate preventive measures in near future.
