No let up in mass protests

Imphal, July 12 2015 : While curfew imposed in the twin districts of Imphal West and Imphal East have paralysed normal life for the fifth day, mass protest demonstrations went on unabated at different locations today too.

A sit-in-protest was staged today at Awang Wabagai under Sekmai Assembly segment.

Speaking to media persons by the sideline of the protest demonstration, one Nandalal Angomcha said it's a matter of shame that the Government is unable to implement ILPS in Manipur in spite of people's persistent demand.

He demanded immediate withdrawal of MRVTMW Bill 2015 and introduction of a new Bill which can safeguard the interest of all indigenous people of Manipur.

Condemning the killing of a school student in police firing, Nandalal demanded befitting action against the guilty police personnel.

It's time for the general public to teach all rogue police personnel a befitting lesson, he added.

He also questioned the inaction of all the legislators regarding the popular demand for implementation of ILPS in the State.

Deployment of additional police force can never suppress the legitimate movement, he added.

A similar protest demonstration was also staged at Lainingthou Ishing Chaiba community hall, Nagamapal under the aegis of the United Clubs IMC Ward No 4 .

One L Sorojini who took part in the protest demonstration decried the State Government's casual approach to the ILPS issue.

Although the incumbent Government claims to be a popular Government, all its actions go against people's common wishes and aspirations.

ILPS should be implemented in Manipur within the next 20 days otherwise violent protest movements would be launched across the State, she said.

At Sagolband Sayang Pukhri Mapal, local Meira Paibis staged a protest demonstration in support of the popular demand for enactment of a legislation which can effectively check influx from different directions.

One Meira Paibi activist, while condemning the killing of Sapam Robinhood, conveyed solidarity to the bereaved family.

She also denounced the State Government's decision of unleashing brute police force against unarmed student protesters.
