Imphal, September 18, 2009:
With the objective to enhance teaching expertise of Primary teachers and to make them more competent, a district level three days training programme was opened yesterday at Kangpokpi under the aegis of the All Manipur Elementary School Teachers' Association Manipur.
The inaugural function was graced by DI Situ Seilet Singsit, ZEO Kangpokpi Ngachong and DI Kangpokpi Mangkhopao as president, chief guest and guest of honour respectively.
Speaking at the inaugural function, AMESTA general secretary Ch Santakumar said that all those in teaching profession need to join hands for the welfare of the teacher community.
He called upon all teachers to tackle all issues of teachers from a common platform irrespective of community, language, religion or hills or valley.
Though the AMESTA had delinked itself from bigger associations based outside the state some years back, it is now able to connect the lost tie, Santakumar said.
He said that the three days' training programme was organised by AMESTA under the All India Primary Teachers' Federation.
The AMESTA was aiming at organising such training programmes in interior areas of the hills as well as the valley, he added.
In his address, ZEO Kangpokpi Ngachong observed that leadership training was vital for all associations including teachers who have been guiding children.
Observing that schools in Kangpokpi area are facing shortage of teachers, Ngachong raised apprehension that if the Government does not provide the deficit teachers, grant-in-schools of the hills may face closure.
The AMESTA need to look into such shortages, he said while assuring all possible assistance from his office.
Observing that engineers are engineers of the future generation, Ngachong called upon teachers to work with dedication.
Many Primary teachers based in Senapati district are attending the three day training programme.
