Rs 50,000 to bullet-injured, Rs 40,000 to car-dash injured students

Imphal, September 18, 2009:
A snap chakka bandh called yesterday by a student body based in Senapati district along the Imphal-Mao section of the NH-39 in protest against the firing incident at Thangal bazar on Wednesday night around 7 pm, in which three students hailing from Senapati district were injured, abruptly ended as it began following an agreement with the government authorities.
The authorities had agreed to pay each of the two bullet-injured students an amount of Rs 50,000 as assistance for treatment of their injuries and the other student who got injured in the car-dash a sum of Rs 40,000. The government authorities had also agreed to provide a new car in place of the car which was damaged in the shooting incident.
It may be recalled here that the three students were wounded when IRB personnel attached to police commandos fired at a Maruti car in which they were travelling despite order to stop at MG Avenue, in the heart of the Imphal city.
The Maruti car finally came to a halt after dashing against the Gypsy of Cdo Inspector H Devendro of Imphal West unit near the statue of Mahatama Gandhi at MG Avenue.
The wounded students are Thomas Adani (18), son of N Dili of Karong, Ashao KS (18), son of Sunny of Taphou and James (20), son of Sheida of Senapati bazar.
Thomas Adani's father N Dili is the president of the Naga Peoples Organisation (NPO).

yesterday morning which caused disturbance in the plying of all kinds of vehicles on the highway.
The chakka bandh was suspended after talks between Tribal Development Minister, DD Thaisii and representatives of the student body.
The Minister agreed to pay adequate compensation to the wounded students including providing a brand new car.
