Imphal, September 18, 2009:
The All Tribal Students' Union, Manipur (ATSUM) has appealed to All Manipur Students' Union (AMSU), Manipur Students Federation (MSF), all civil society organizations as well as the state government not to disturb the normal functioning of educational institutions in any form.
In a press statement issued on Friday, ATSUM stated that the ongoing class boycott imposed upon educational institutions across the state have greatly impeded the continuous progress of the educational needs of the deserving students and have corresponding effect upon the lives of the people.
ATSUM reiterated their principle stand "exemption of Educational Institution" in any kind of agitation and fervently appealed to AMSU and MSF leadership to revoke their hard stand to close down educational institutions purely in the larger interest of the learning communities.
The press statement asserted that ATSUM still stand and will continue to stand for "Free Zone to Education" which has been advocated in the past and appealed to AMSU, MSF, all the civil society organizations as well as the government not to disturb the normal functioning of educational institutions in any form of protest movements.
This statement of the tribal students came today following the boycott call of classes in the state by certain students' body as a move to endorse the ongoing mass movement against the July 23 fake encounter incident of Imphal.
Its been more than a week now that schools have not been functioning while paying heed to the boycott call.
